New key presses and automatic repeat
Holding a key commonly produces repeated keydown events marked repeat=true.
Holding a key commonly produces repeated keydown events marked repeat=true. We count those separately from new presses. A new press following a release can also arrive close to the previous press; the adjustable threshold helps inspect it but does not identify a faulty contact. key describes the interpreted value, while code describes a physical position when available. Layout, input methods, accessibility settings and software can change what arrives. Reproduce the problem in the test area, then compare with the application where it occurs. Do not type passwords into tests.
